Do you think animation has to be a solitary experience? Hours spent toiling over your pencil tests or sitting silently in front of a computer?
You're not alone! Come to our "Straight to Ink and Drink" event--it's a great chance for animators to collaboratively draw and get to know one another. We'll draw on note cards fast and furiously, then film them on the spot for a virtually instantaneous screening!
All the while, we'll screen animation from ASIFA San Francisco for your viewing enjoyment.
Afterwards, we'll get together for some drinks at the Satellite Lounge around the corner. Bring your animation friends--The first two pitchers are on us!

MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO
(Hayao Miyazaki, 1988, 35mm, 86 min)
JULY 22 - 23, Tuesday - Wednesday at 7, 9pm
One of the most beloved family films of all time, MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO is a meticulous and utterly awe-inspiring film, filled with the kind of gentle magic that can only be seen through the eyes of a child.
My daughter's favorite film of all time, she's 5 ;)
This film is rated G and is appropriate for all ages.
SPIRITED AWAY
(Hayao Miyazaki, 2001, 35mm, 124 min)
AUGUST 26 - 27, Tuesday - Wednesday at 6:30, 9pm
Hayao Miyazakis best-known work won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Drawing heavily on Japanese cultural influences and fairy-tale motifs, as well as childrens literature classics including "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wizard of Oz," this astonishing film tells the tale of a young girl, Chihiro, who is trapped with her parents in a strange world of spirits. Chihiro must summon all her intelligence, strength, courage and compassion to break the spell and return to the world of humans.
This film is rated PG and is appropriate for ages 8 and up. The film contains moments of violence and images that may be scary to younger viewers.

We will cover timing and movement techniques as well as the use of replacement animation and silhouette puppetry. Collage animation is fun and easy to get into. If a Monty Python animation sketch ever made you laugh, or a Lotte Reiniger silhouette animation ever made you swoon, this is the workshop for you! Included in this class is the use of 4 hours of animation time at 911 Media.
This class is open to all skill levels. No previous experience in drawing or film required.
