JAZZ ANIMATION FROM THE HUBLEY STUDIO
(John and Faith Hubley, USA, 195775, 35mm, 70 min)
Presented by:
Music Movies
Family Frames
Earshot Jazz Films
November 12, SaturdaySunday at 5:00PM
Beginning in the 1950s, the wonderfully imaginative and innovative films of independent animators John and Faith Hubley broke from traditional styles of animation and addressed important issues with intelligence, passion and humor. Their poetic sensibility and whimsical, impressionistic visual style (more reminiscent of painters Klee and Miro than Disney) lent itself perfectly to jazz music. "Theres something about jazzs bending of time within a rigid format that also applies to animation," Faith Hubley once observed. "Thats why they work so well together. Its a marriage made in heaven." This special program highlights the best of the Hubleys jazz films, featuring their collaborations with such musicians and composers as Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Quincy Jones, Benny Carter, and others.
This film is rated G and is appropriate for all ages.

Optical Printing and Direct Animation
Four Saturdays, Nov. 1, 8, 15 & 22, 12-3pm
Cost: $130 ($100 WigglyWorld Members)
Instructor: Jon Behrens
Class limit: 8
In this very hands-on class, filmmakers will learn direct animation techniques like painting, bleaching, scratching and dying 16mm celluloid film stock and then learn how to create magic using NWFF's JK Optical Printer-an age old and nearly forgotten device used to re-photograph motion picture film with dazzling results by learning basic and not so basic optical printer skills. At the end of four weekends students will have contributed to the making of a short experimental film that will be very colorful and beautiful.
That's all for now...
