1. HASH LAUNCHES ANIMATION MASTER WEB SITE
Hash, Inc., makers of the popular computer animation software
Animation:Master, has launched a new web site called "A:M Films" to
promote films made with the software, and the artists who made them.
Animation:Master is used by a lot of independent animators because it is
easy and affordable ($299). This site is designed for users of
Animation:Master to show and distribute their work. A:M Films can be
viewed in any web browser that supports QuickTime, so these films can now
be seen by a large worldwide audience. The site address is
amfilms.hash.com and only accepts QuickTime movies created with
Animation:Master. The A:M Films site allows you to search for films by
name, animator, year, and genre. Genres include stories, music videos,
anime, cartoons, game graphics, martial arts, and others. Hash's
Marketing Director Ken Baer says "We envision this site being like iFilm
for animation. The site is totally free for viewing and posting, and has
no commercials you are required to watch. Three of the most popular
Internet films, "Alien Song" by Victor Navone, "Killer Bean 2: The Party"
by Jeff Lew, and "Perk" by Dusan Kastelic are on A:M Films." Check it out

8. SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL [Seattle, WA]
May 20- June 13
This year's festival will include a screening of "Monster Road," the new
documentary about Seattle animator Bruce Bickford. It has not yet been
screened publicly in Seattle so this is sure to be a popular show. Here's
what Karl Cohen of ASIFA-San Francisco has to say about the film: "MONSTER
ROAD" IS AN EXCELLENT STUDY ABOUT ANIMATOR BRUCE BICKFORD. The standing
room only show at the Other Cinema (ATA) on April 3 was a rare chance to
meet Bickford and to learn about a man who has spent a lifetime creating
personal animated shorts. He is an amazing "primitive artist," a
self-taught folk artist. His works are so personal that many have never
been shown to the public. He lives as a recluse near Seattle and I suspect
he has never tried to enter his work in major festivals. Bickford's work
is far removed from animation as I know it. The feature length documentary
about him belongs in a category with Crumb and the more recent film on the
life of Harvey Pekar. Aspects of Bickford's life that have shaped his art
include his being bullied as a kid by older brothers and then his going
into the Marines and serving in Viet Nam. At the intermission he told a
few people he stopped taking acid in the early 70s. In the documentary we
learn from his father that he took his son to see a Bergman classic, but
he didn't relate to it. Bruce says he likes lots of action in movies. His
work is full of psychedelic metamorphosis mixed with sex, violence, blood,
guts, torture, etc. His vision includes a remarkable obsession with the
destruction of life and our world. It may not be your cup of tea, but I
think people should know that his work exists." Lots more films will be
shown at SIFF but they haven't released their program info to the public
yet. So, see for yourself at www.seattlefilm.com later this week.
Location: various theaters, see program listings
