A FESTIVAL OF WORLD CINEMA FOR CHILDISH PEOPLE AGE 3 AND UP
Presented by The Northwest Film Forum. Winter is a dreamy time for
audiences of all ages to burrow into the movie theater, and this year
the Childish Film Festival comes to the Northwest Film Forum for the
dark months, when the cinema is the most inviting. Join the NWFF for
a wide array of non-commercial films and videos, found mostly via a
growing international children's film festival circuit. With a
smorgasbord of animation, live-action, fiction, nonfiction, shorts,
and features, the Childish Film Festival promises again to take Seattle
youngsters (and the adults that accompany them) on an adventurous
journey into new cinematic territories.

Love anime and manga? Like to draw (or want to learn how)? This is the
place to be on Friday nights! In this weekly drop-in art activity for
middle and high-school age teens, you will create and publish your own
manga comics and anime art. Tips and techniques taught by professional
artists.

opportunity to create a short personal film while learning the
fundamentals of animation. You'll use your original and found
art elements to tell your story with motion and sound.

Bring your drawings to life and make your own short animated film!
Learning the basic techniques and concepts behind animation filmmaking,
you will create a short animated video story using drawings, cutouts,
objects, flipbooks and a few surprises. No previous experience
or special artistic ability necessary. Families and friends are
invited to a screening of completed work after the class. Equipment
and supplies included. Everyone will receive a copy of the class
projects on videocassette.

This studio course, through survey, discussion and workshop,
introduces students to animation principles, cinematic vocabulary
and the conceptual foundations of moving image arts. The course
includes hands-on animation experiments as well as a survey of
important moving image artists in film, video, installation and web.
Students will see their own work come alive using both pre-camera
optical devices and a state of the art video pencil test recorder. Moving Image Arts: Intermediate Animation

Explore the relationship of sound and moving images in the
frame-by-frame world of animation. This course, through
screenings and lecture, provides an explanation of classical
approaches to narrative, conventions of cinematic space and
time, as well as an illustrated exploration of alternatives
to classic linear sequencing. This course supports students
in the creation of experimental work that is personally
expressive and informed by historical and
contemporary approaches. Flash Animation

Learn how to use Macromedia Flash, the premiere animation
tool for the web. This class includes lectures, demonstrations,
and hands-on practice with Flash. The course covers creating and
importing artwork into Flash, animation techniques, and optimizing

In this intensive course, students experience the basic stages
of digital filmmaking, storyboarding, shooting, editing and output
to tape or Quicktime Movie. The class includes film and video
viewing, demonstrations and short lectures, hands on shooting
and editing, viewing and critique of class work. Digital video
cameras will be available for use during class time. If you have
a camera, bring it. The primary editing software in this class
will be iMovie. Digital Filmmaking (Ages 14-18)

Learn how to make your shots look just the way you imagined them.
Angles, close-ups, establishing shots, color, light, on a tripod
or hand-held; pacing, movement, storyboards, interviews, scripts
are all part of a successful movie. Through viewing films,
videos, and commercials, discussions, demos; and lots of hands on
shooting and editing you will see what it’s like to create a
digital story. Digital video cameras provided during class time.
